Fulton woman indicted on murder charges

A Fulton woman previously charged with second-degree murder was indicted by a grand jury in Callaway County on Friday on new charges after she allegedly shot and killed a man in March.

Kalesha M. Peterson was indicted for first-degree murder and armed criminal action. She was previously charged with second-degree murder and unlawful use of a weapon.

Peterson allegedly shot and killed her boyfriend, David Dalton, on March 7 in the 400 block of East First Street while the two were drinking alcohol and watching a movie, the Fulton Police Department said at the time in a news release. Peterson told police Dalton said he wanted to play out a scene in a movie involving a gun, which is when the gun fired, according to the release.

The grand jury gave Peterson alternative charges of second-degree murder and second-degree assault.
