MidwayUSA seeks rezoning for expansion

MidwayUSA is seeking a rezoning of a plot of land between Columbia and Rocheport to expand its operations.

Company owner Larry Potterfield sent a letter last month to neighboring property owners about his request to rezone 190 acres of land at the southeast corner of Route J and Highway 40 from agricultural to industrial. In the letter Potterfield said the company wants to relocate its logistics operation from the MidwayUSA campus at Route UU and Van Horn Tavern Road just outside Columbia to plot off Route J.

“We have come to the point where it is no longer feasible to expand the logistics portion of the company at its current location and therefore we would like to relocate the logistics operation to the 40 & J property to allow for expansion,” Potterfield wrote.

Potterfield said he plans to submit the rezoning request to the county Monday. No timeline for completion of the project has been established, he said.

MidwayUSA employs about 350 people. The company makes and sells firearms and outdoor equipment.
