Jefferson City police say officer attacked by dogs

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A dog bit an officer in a motel parking lot Monday, the Jefferson City Police Department said.

Officers were at the Days Inn, 2100 Jefferson St., to issue a trespassing notice. Police say the officer found the subject of the notice in a vehicle with drugs in view.

An officer told the suspect they were being arrested for drugs and to get out of the vehicle and the suspect ordered their two dogs to attack, police say. One officer was bitten multiple times on the legs and arms by one of the dogs.

The same officer shot the dog and the suspect went back into the truck with the two dogs, the release says. More police came to the scene and arrested the suspect. Animal Control took the dogs into custody.

The officer was treated and released but more medical treatment is possible after finding out whether the animals were vaccinated, police say.

JCPD didn't name the suspect but said they are in custody on suspicion of drug possession, resisting arrest and first-degree assault.
