City to host meeting on southwest Columbia park

Columbia Parks and Recreation will host a public meeting Tuesday on its plan to develop a new park in southwest Columbia.

Beulah Ralph Elementary School, 5801 S. Route KK, will host the meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. A meeting was also held July 30 at the school. The city also took comment via an online survey from July 17 to Aug. 8.

Plans call for a new park on a 16-acre property on 4820 S. Old Mill Creek Road.

The park is being funded by $125,000 from the 2015 park sales tax. The development of the park is part of the Capital Improvement Project.

The plan includes enlarging the pond on the property and building a parking lot, a soccer field, a concrete trail, a playground, new trees and a 16-by-20-foot shelter with tables and a barbecue.
