Crash causes small power outage in Jefferson City

UPDATE 5 a.m.: All power is back on in Jefferson City.

UPDATE 2:15 a.m.: According to the Ameren outage map, power is now expected to be back on around 4:15 a.m.

ORIGINAL: A crash knocked out power to 30 Ameren customers Friday night in Jefferson City.

In a news release, Jefferson City police said a Chevrolet pickup truck crashed into a utility pole in the 600 block of Georgia Street just after 9 p.m. Friday.

The pole broke and the transformer box landed on top of the pickup truck.

Both people inside the truck were conscious when first responders got to the scene. The passenger in the truck suffered a minor injury to his left hand, police said.

Early Sunday morning, Ameren crews were still working to restore power in the area. According to the company’s website, crews expect to have power back on around 2 a.m.

Police said Georgia Street would stay closed through the night due to the work.
