Jefferson City police confirmed one person was in custody following an early morning shooting Monday.

Jefferson City police responded to the 1000 block of Elizabeth Street just after 2 a.m. Monday after they received reports of a man shooting at a vehicle in the street. Authorities said they are investigating the incident as a weapons offense.

Officers located the owner of the vehicle, who said her boyfriend was responsible and had also assaulted her prior to leaving the area, according to a Jefferson City Police Department news release.

Police said no one was hurt in the shooting. One car was left with bullet holes, and another car was towed away.

Police cleared the scene shortly before 4 a.m.

Police did not give the name of the suspect, but the man was being held at the Cole County Jail, and charges of fourth-degree domestic assault, first-degree property damage, unlawful use of a weapon and armed criminal action were being sought.
