Jefferson City man faces several felony charges after allegedly shooting at a vehicle

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

A Jefferson City man faces several felony charges after allegedly firing a gun at a vehicle.

Jefferson City police say Jody Nowels, 35, was riding in a car with two people. He was driven to a gas station and to the area of East Capitol Avenue and Marshall Street, according to a probable cause statement.

He allegedly became mad when the driver would not drive him to the west end of Jefferson City. The driver told Nowels to get out of the car and Nowels allegedly made a threat, according to the statement.

Nowels grabbed a Reebok bag that was in the backseat near him. Another passenger was able to grab the bag from him. Once Nowels was outside the vehicle, one of the people in the car allegedly saw him pull out a handgun and shot at them at least five times. One of the bullets hit the rear driver side tire.

An arraignment hearing was held Wednesday afternoon at the Cole County Courthouse. A pre-trial assessment was filed.

He is charged with two counts of first-degree assault, three counts of armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held at the Cole County Jail without bond.

In another case, Nowels is charged with possession of 35 grams or less of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. A bond violation report was filed Monday. Nowels pleaded not guilty to those charges on Oct. 26. A trial setting is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14.
