Freight train hits oversize load on tracks in Monroe County
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
A freight train hit a truck pulling an oversize load on a track in Paris, Missouri, on Thursday.
No one was injured in the crash, said Cpl. Justin Dunn with the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Troop B. Two people were on the Norfolk Southern train and one person was in the semi-truck hauling the oversize load, Dunn said.
The truck became stuck when crossing the tracks on Highway 15 on the north side of Paris. Dunn said two engines and five or six boxcars derailed in the crash. The truck was hauling a 196-foot silo tank, Dunn said, and the train was hauling car parts and frames and grain.
The crash happened at about 11 a.m. The Missouri Department of Transportation reported on its traveler information map that the road would be blocked for an undetermined length of time.
Cars were being detoured on Highway 154 West to Highway 24 East and back onto Highway 15, MoDOT reported. The road closure was expected to last overnight.
