Jefferson City Council approves development plan for Capitol Avenue
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Jefferson City Council unanimously approved bill 2022-70 at its meeting on Monday.
After voting to get rid of the word βallβ β which the council believed would allow it to make the bidding process faster β the council approved the bill. Approving the development plan is a prerequisite to seeking ownership by eminent domain, according to the council. Eminent domain is the right of a government or its agent toΒ expropriateΒ private property for public use, with payment of compensation.
The council was looking at possibly demolishing several buildings on Capitol Avenue during an October meeting before members of the community suggested there could be interest by private investors.
The council issued a call for interested parties to buy any of the properties at the end of October. That period to find possible buyers lasts until Nov. 30.
