Mizzou prepares for another “physical” game against Kentucky

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Year after year, the Mizzou and Kentucky football game seems to be a big momentum swinger for the Tiger football team.

Heading into the 2022 match up, MU is coming into it on a two-game winning streak and fresh off of a win over then-No. 25 South Carolina. Despite the recent breakthroughs, head coach Eli Drinkwitz and company are preparing for a physical game against Mark Stoops and the Wildcats.

"I've been here what six years and five of them have been really tight, one possession games. I think that it's definitely a measuring stick game and I think it's also a very physical football team. It's a physical brand of football. They have a way they want to play," wide receiver Barrett Banister said. "It's a man's game."

Quarterback Brady Cook looked back on all the tight game and controversial calls that have come in the series against Kentucky. The big breakthrough for Mizzou came in 2020, in Drinkwitz's first season, when MU beat UK for the fist time in five seasons. However, in 2021, the Wildcats got right back in the win column.

Cook said it is important that the Tigers don't change anything in their preparation leading up to this one.

"I have my process down to a T," he said. "Nothing changes. You get back here Saturday night and you recreate the process, so nothing else changes and then the game is gonna happen on Saturday."

Mizzou and Kentucky will kick off at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Faurot Field.
