Missouri NAACP issues cease-and-desist to Legal Missouri 2022
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Missouri NAACP sent a cease-and-desist letter to Legal Missouri 2022 on Wednesday for several of its chapters as endorsers on its website.
Legal Missouri 2022 is a group that supports a "yes" vote on Amendment 3 in the Nov. 8 election. If it passes, it would make recreational sales of marijuana legal and expunge certain non-violent offenses
A graphic on its website lists NAACP Columbia, NAACP St. Louis City and NAACP St. Louis County as endorsers.
St. Louis-area chapters and the Missouri state chapter are split on their support for the amendment.
"Specifically, Legal Missouri 2022 is prohibited from using the name of the Missouri State Conference of the NAACP or any of its member unit including the following units: the St. Louis County Brach; the Columbia Brach; and St. Louis Branch as it relates to any and all NAACP units in the state in any of its advertisements or in any other capacity, without the express consent of the NAACP," the letter states.
Legal Missouri 2022 previously received a cease-and-desist letter from the Missouri State Highway Patrol for making its emblem visible in a pair of commercials.
