LOS ANGELES (AP) — Mexican-born filmmaker Jorge Xolalpa is mired in a years-long battle over whether he can keep working legally in the United States. He is among hundreds of thousands of people waiting to learn if the program known as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals will be allowed to continue. The 33-year-old says he’ll find a way to make a living in property management as an independent contractor and won’t stop making movies, but that he would reel from the loss of stability if DACA is struck down. Xolalpa has been living in Southern California most of his life, and has benefited from the federal government program, but he says he wants more certainty and the ability to travel more easily for work and film festivals overseas.
