Mizzou partners with local law enforcement to ensure safety for homecoming weekend

COLUMBIA, MO. (KMIZ)

The University of Missouri has partnered with local law enforcement agencies and first responders to patrol Downtown Columbia during the school's homecoming festivities.

Mizzou's Homecoming parade will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday. The parade will block off multiple roads downtown and on Mizzou's campus.

"We are partnering with the Columbia Police Department to work the City street closures," Associate Director of MU News Bureau Uriah Orland said. "They have jurisdiction over the street so we're working with them." The parade will go from Rollins Street to Downtown Columbia on Cherry Street."

"They'll have everything clearly marked," Orlando said. "If you're coming for the parade, please come early. Find your spots. If you don't need to come into town.

"MUPD wil be on scene. Columbia Police Department will partner with the Boone County Sheriffs, Missouri State Patrol for traffic flow for the game."

The Columbia Fire Department will also be in attendance.

"We'll have 12 full-staffed crews throughout the city, "Assistant Fire Chief Clayton Farr Jr. said. "We'll have two crews that are dedicated to the football stadium it's self in order to ensure that we can have adequate coverage on both the ease and west side."

Farr advices fans to plan ahead.

"We encourage people to hydrate with water, Powerade or Gatorade, those sorts of things," Farr said. "We know people want to go to the football stadium and have a great time. But it's really important that we take care of ourselves."

"If anybody does see anything, or you know needs help, there will be officers patrolling," Orland said.

Orland says if your or someone you know needs help, you should call 911 or CPD's non emergency line, 311.
