Audrain County fugitive arrested in Columbia
Columbia police arrested a man Tuesday night who was accused of dragging a police officer with his vehicle during a traffic stop in Audrain County.
A police officer was on another call at Red Roof Inn in Columbia at about 9 p.m. Wednesday when he saw a man who looked like Trevor Pepper, the officer wrote in a probable cause statement. The Callaway County Sheriff’s Department had called Columbia police earlier that night to say Pepper might be at the motel, according to the statement.
Pepper, 21, of Mexico, Missouri, was wanted after he allegedly drove off from a traffic stop in Mexico early Monday. An officer was partially inside Pepper’s vehicle when Pepper drove off, Mexico police said. The officer suffered only minor injuries.
The Columbia officer wrote that Pepper initially gave him a fake name and tried to pull away from the officer during his arrest Tuesday. The officer threw Pepper on the ground to restrain him, according to the probable cause statement.
Pepper is charged with misdemeanor resisting arrest in Boone County. Information about his Audrain County case was not available in online court records. He remained in the Boone County Jail late Wednesday.
