Man gets serious injuries in UTV crash

A Rocky Mount man got serious injuries Saturday morning after his UTV went over a retaining wall.

It happened just before 8:00 a.m. in the 2600 block of Lake Front Lane.

According to Highway Patrol troopers, Howard Carender, 77, was on the 2016 Kawasaki Mule 610 when it apparently traveled backwards over a retaining wall and hit the ground.

Carender was ejected, and taken to Lake Regional Hospital to be treated for his injuries.

The UTV apparently kept going after Carender was thrown from it. It ended up hitting a dock and had to be towed out of the lake.
