Mid-Missouri Business Week: Influx of university students to bring boost to local businesses

The University of Missouri is seeing huge growth in enrollment. University officials say this will bring an economic boost to Mid-Missouri as well.

Jim Spain, the director of undergraduate studies at Mizzou said local businesses will play a role in accommodating the influx of students in areas such as student housing and employment opportunities.

The school also recently announced it is shifting some funds to increase scholarships for students. Spain said this will help to bring students from all backgrounds and counties to Columbia.

“This is Mizzou making an investment to really make Mizzou an affordable and accessible institution,” Spain said.
