Bye week came at ‘perfect’ time for Mizzou football

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Mizzou football team is in the middle of its bye week, ahead of the homecoming game against Vanderbilt on Oct. 22.

Midway through the season, MU is 2-4 overall with no wins the SEC. Wide receiver Dominic Lovett said the bye week came at the perfect time for the group.

"I feel like we're growing as a team," he said. "We just got to get over that one hump, that's to finish. We just got to learn how to finish and once we do that we'll be a scary sight, scary sight."

Multiple players echoed that same message on Tuesday evening. Some said they believe that Mizzou is right on the verge of breaking through.

"I feel like we're one play away from turning it around," safety Martez Manuel said. "Unfortunately, those one plays in the past three games haven't really gone our way, but the only way we can keep getting better is by just keep going."

With six games still left in the season, MU is on the hunt for bowl eligibility. The Tigers will need to get four more wins in order for that to happen. The next six match ups are against Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, New Mexico State, and Arkansas.

The offensive line is taking time in the bye week to watch film and identify how they can improve moving forward. Graduate student Connor Wood said it's all about taking ownership.

"Execution, you know, I think it's individualized. On same plays we're one person or one block away. We just have to, at the end of the day, we just have to execute the game plan," he said.
