Agencies accepting unused prescriptions this weekend

Officials with the Boone County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that it collected 172 pounds of unused or unwated prescription medications Friday between two collection sites.

154 pounds were collected at the VA Hospital and 18 pounds at the MU Student Center.

The Sheriff’s Department, along with other agencies in surrounding counties, will continue to accept prescription drugs Saturday.

Law enforcement asked people to bring their expired, unused or unwanted prescription medications to a take-back location.

Prescriptions can be dropped off Saturday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the following locations:

Ashland Police Department, 601 E. Broadway, Ashland Centralia Police Department Lobby, 114 S. Rollins, Centralia Hallsville Police Department, 202 Highway 124 East Hickman High School, 1104 N. Providence Road, Columbia Rock Bridge High School, 4303 S. Providence Road, Columbia

Needles, intravenous solutions, injectables and/or syringes will not be accepted during the event due to potential hazards.
