Hail part of overnight severe weather threat

With spring comes the possibility of storm damage, especially in areas such as central Missouri that are frequent targets for storms.

The ABC 17 News Stormtrack Weather Team has issued a Weather Alert Day for Wednesday because of the possibility of strong storms. Stormtrack Meteorologist Brigit Mahoney said the greatest severe weather risk is for hail.

“We budget for claims every year,” Shelter Insurance agent Jay MacLellan said.

He said insurance companies cannot name a specific amount of money they expectsto pay out in a given year, but they expect the highest number of hail storms to occur from March through the beginning of July.

MacLellan said the amount of money it takes to fix hail damage on a car varies. The size of the hail is often a determining factor.

“Think about the time frame the storms are going to be happening,” MacLellan said.

MacLellan recommends keeping the car in the garage if storms with a possibility or hail are in the forecast.
