Holts Summit candidate requests special election after tie

A Holts Summit Board of Aldermen candidate requested a special election be held after votes for her seat were tied on the April 2 election.

Lisa Buhr, who ran for Board of Aldermen Ward 2, tied with candidate Chris Redel for the seat.

“The last thing I want to do is cost the city more money,” Buhr said. “However, I feel compelled to uphold our voting processes.”

The board was expected to play a “game of chance” to break the tie at the last meeting, but Buhr did not agree to the tie breaker.

“While I am not concerned that anything unethical has occurred, both the Holts Summit Interim City Administrator and the Callaway County Clerk have never seen a tie in an election before,” Buhr said. “It is important that the people in these positions follow the process outlined in Missouri statute and be held accountable to their constituents.”
