Resumption of flights expected Tuesday

Flights to and from Columbia Regional Airport are available to book after the expected resumption of commercial air service Tuesday.

Both American and United Airlines — which operate flights to and from Dallas-Ft. Worth, Chicago and Denver out of Columbia using regional carriers — had flights available for Tuesday.

City officials have said they expect flights to resume Tuesday. The runway was closed this week after the regional carriers suspended flights to and from the airport because pilots complained that a bump in the runway might be a safety hazard. Crews are working to reduce the bump before the city reopens the runway.

The airport has posted regular updates about the runway work on its Facebook page.

A spokesperson for American said the airline “looks foward to resuming service” once the runway reopens. City officials said earlier in the week they planned to speak with representatives from the airlines Friday, but it wasn’t clear whether that happened or what resulted from the conversation.
