Man gets life sentence for killing JCCC inmate

An inmate at Jefferson City Correctional Center was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday after he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder.

Ryan A. Vaught was originally charged with the killing in June 2014 in a grand jury indictment. Vaught was accused of killing his cellmate, 65-year-old Daniel Skipper, on Feb. 16, 2014 at the prison.

Skipper was serving time on statutory rape and sodomy charges. Vaught was in for armed criminal action and assault.

Prosecutors were originally seeking the death penalty for Vaught, but he was sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to the killing on Thursday.
