Bald eagle hit, killed by truck in mid-Missouri

A bald eagle was hit and killed by a passing truck Thursday morning in Cole County, according to the Missouri Department of Conservation.

It happened on Route B in Wardsville near the bridge over the Moreau River.

The national emblem of the United States, the bald eagle is a federally protected species under the Bald Eagle Protection Act of 1940.

MDC spokesman Robert Hemmelgarn told ABC 17 News that the raptor crashed through the window of a passing truck and that no one was injured.

Hemmelgarn said the department followed protocol in collecting the carcass and delivered it to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s National Eagle Repository.
