Jessica Quick takes over as weather chief

ABC 17 News has a new chief meteorologist.

Jessica Quick made her return to Mid-Missouri on Tuesday, taking over for former chief Sharon Ray, who recently left the station for a job in Corpus Christi, Texas. Quick had previously worked under Ray on the ABC 17 News Stormtrack Weather Team between 2014 and 2016.

Quick said she learned from one of the best during her previous stint in Columbia.

“I’m excited to be here. I know I have huge shoes to fill. Sharon Ray was amazing and she was an amazing role model for me, so I’m hoping to follow in her footsteps and lead the team in a good direction,” Quick said.

Quick is an Illinois native who graduated with a bachelor of science in meteorology from Northern Illinois University. She earned her American Meteorological Society Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal in 2015. She just ended three years as an on-air meteorologist at KSDK-TV in St. Louis.

“We’re thrilled to have Jessica back on the team,” ABC 17 News Director Curtis Hancock said. “I know she’s a great forecaster but I’m looking forward most to how she’ll take care of Mid-Missourians during severe weather. She’s been a meteorologist in Missouri for 6-1/2 years so she’s seen a little bit of everything. She’s proven herself capable of tracking storms and their impacts and we know that’s critically important to people.”

Quick will work weeknights for ABC 17 News, appearing at 5, 6, 6:30, 9 and 10 p.m. She will also oversee the Stormtrack Weather Team’s online work, including daily forecast videos, blog posts and severe weather coverage on www.abc17news.com.
