Showers and storms attempt to ruin a perfect weather weekend

TONIGHT: It was a beautiful afternoon today as clouds cooperated early, unfortunately, clouds are moving in as they lift out of Oklahoma and Arkansas. These clouds come as a warm front lifts into the area and we’ll be tracking showers along with a few rumbles of thunder into the viewing area well after sunset, closer to the midnight-3AM time frame. We can’t rule out a few stronger cells with some small hail embedded tonight, but that window looks to be closing. Temperatures will gradually fall into the mid to upper 50s for lows.

SUNDAY: With a mild start behind a warm front, temperatures look to easily climb back into the low to mid 70s once again on Sunday. One difference that might be felt tomorrow will be the increase in moisture with dew points pushing toward the low 60s, creating a bit of a sticky feel by the afternoon. We’ll be tracking a cold front into the area as this system moves through, and winds will become a bit breezy tomorrow afternoon as the front approaches. This front could provide the spark needed to see storms redevelop in the afternoon, with the better chance the further southeast you live in the viewing area. With an unstable atmosphere in place, some of these could become strong and push severe criteria. However, if our early morning round of showers and storms work over the atmosphere enough, the front will struggle to provide enough of a kick to see any real threat, so this bears monitoring.

EXTENDED: Monday and Tuesday look to rival Saturday’s weather in beauty with temperatures topping out in the low 70s and sunny skies. Models have been hinting at an active stretch toward the middle of next week. It doesn’t look like a washout at this point, but we’ll see chances of showers enter the forecast around Wednesday and Thursday as an impressive-looking low pressure system moves through the Midwest.
