Cool start to Saturday, 70s make a return this afternoon
SATURDAY: It’s a cool start to the morning across the area with many of us in the mid 40s. That will quickly be replaced by warming temperatures under partly cloudy skies through the afternoon hours. Temperatures will top out, comfortably, in the low 70s. We can expect increasing clouds as a warm front approaches the area into the overnight hours. Saturday “Day” plans will not be affected by rain or storms.
TONIGHT: A warm front will lift through Mid-Missouri later this evening sparking off a chance of storms after 11pm. Some of these storms could produce small hail or a gusty wind, but widespread severe weather is not expected. Temperatures will bottom out in the low 50s.
EXTENDED: Following Saturday night’s warm front, that will set up a warm and relatively muggy day across Mid-Missouri. Temperatures will likely top out in the low-to-mid-70s, with some spots in the region making a run for 80 in our southern counties. We’ll also notice, following the warm front, that it will start to feel a bit sticky outside. Forecast dew points are in the low to mid 60s, which will give that late-spring feel to the atmosphere. This brings us to the storm chance Sunday afternoon. Fortunately, the cold front forecast to track through doesn’t come until after sunset, and the cold front isn’t very well-defined. We’ll certainly have plenty of “fuel” for storms Sunday due to the warm & moist conditions but without a focused trigger (cold front) it’s like trying to light a fire without a match. Something we’re going to continue to follow closely. Storms would fire in the later afternoon/evening hours, with the main threats being large hail and strong wind gusts.
