JCPS investigates after student left on bus

Jefferson City Public Schools released a statement Thursday after a student was left on a school bus.

In an email, district officials said it was made aware Wednesday that a student had not arrived at school and later discovered the student had not made it off the bus during morning drop-off.

Officials said the student was unharmed.

“We are extremely concerned that this incident occurred,” director of communications Ryan Burns said. “The failure of the First Student employees to follow established protocol is unacceptable.”

Officials said the district is investigating to determine what changes may be necessary.

“The employees involved in this incident will no longer perform duties for JCPS,” Burns said.

Officials said that the district is committed to making sure something like this does not happen again.
