Deputies in Callaway County have arrested a man and woman on suspicion of burglarizing a home east of Auxvasse on Independence Day. A house alarm alerted authorities to the burglary at the home on Highway B; when deputies arrived, they reported seeing Dara Lander, 24, and Timothy Bodimer, 47, taking things out of the house.

Storms moving across Mid-Missouri on Wednesday caused some damage around the area, including downed tree limbs and possible lightning damage to a home east of Columbia. At last check, Boone Electric Cooperative reported around 300 people without power in the Wilhite Road area, northwest of Columbia. At one point, nearly 700 people had no electricity.

Charles Thompson has been sentenced to 20 years in prison following convictions for burglary and a hit-and-run crash. A judge sentenced Thomson to 15 years for the 2015 burglary during which Johnny Evans was shot and killed. Thompson had been charged with murder and armed robbery in that case, but was acquitted of those charges.

The Howard County prosecutor has dropped charges against Zachary Jefferson, who had been accused of killing Jon Spurling in 2011. No reason was given for the dismissal of charges. At the time of the killing, Jefferson was married to Spurling’s ex-wife, and investigators claimed Jefferson was jealous of Spurling. Deputies arrested Jefferson in March 2014.
