Officials confirmed a prisoner died last week in Jefferson City. On Monday, the Missouri Department of Corrections said Otis Smith, 80, was pronounced dead Thursday afternoon from what appeared to be natural causes. Smith was serving a life sentence with no chance for parole for a capital murder case from St. Louis.

A Boone County Circuit Judge on Monday convicted 18-year-old Ashley Renee Moore of Columbia of a misdemeanor count of operating a motor vehicle in a careless and imprudent manner, for her role in a deadly 2014 Columbia crash. Moore’s bench trial began on Dec. 17, and Judge Kimberly Jane Shaw took the case under advisement.

Roosevelt Easley, 30, of St. Louis, was charged in Boone County Monday with resisting arrest and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident. Easley was taken into custody on Friday, January 8 near Missouri Boulevard and Dunklin Street in Jefferson city after leading law enforcement on a high speed chase that started in Columbia.

A man is in custody Friday afternoon after fleeing Cole County deputies who discovered he was driving a stolen car. Turner Murrell, the suspect in custody, was wanted in Cole County for burglary with a $50,000 bond.
