Bed bug battle continues at Truman Building in Jefferson City; extermination area widens

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Missouri Office of Administration's Facility's Division continues extermination efforts at the Harry S Truman State Office Building in Jefferson City, the home of many state offices.

ABC 17 News reported Wednesday that bed bugs were found in a second-floor office of the building.

"The bed bug abatement is currently ongoing," said Office of Administration spokesperson Chris Moreland. "Today (Monday), a fast-acting product was applied to those areas of concern."

Moreland said dogs will be used to re-inspect a larger area around the location in which nine bugs were found last week.

Exterminators will return to the building Saturday to treat four office suites that house OA’s Information Technology Services Division -- 230, 250, 270 and 280.

A custodial contractor has been vacuuming the area of concern on the second floor and Facilities Division custodians have been setting and monitoring glue traps, Moreland said.

Employees in the affected suites were given the option to work from home Monday.
