Severe Weather Preparedness Week: Receiving Weather Information
Mid-Missouri is expecting several rounds of showers and thunderstorms this week, just in time for Severe Weather Preparedness Week in the Show-Me State from March 2nd through the 6th.

On the first day of Severe Weather Preparedness Week, before any severe weather moves in, you should have several ways to receive weather information.
Staying on top of the forecast is the first step in properly preparing for severe weather. With modern forecasting skills, the possibility of severe weather can be seen up to a week away, giving more time for planning and decision-making.

You can find our latest forecasts with the ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather App, which allows access to real-time weather alerts for severe or inclement weather, the ability to monitor Doppler radar, and ensures you receive our latest alerts in the event of a Weather Alert Day.
There are backups in case internet or phone access is limited. A reliable source for weather information is a battery-powered NOAA weather radio that can continue to provide geolocated information during power loss.
Severe weather season is just beginning in Missouri; our state sees its highest number of tornadoes during April and March, with an average of 8 and 12 tornadoes in each respective month.
The rest of Severe Weather Preparedness Week will cover how to stay safe during various types of severe weather, including lightning, high winds, hail, tornadoes, and flooding.
