Thousands without power after severe overnight storm across Mid-Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Thousands are without power after early Tuesday morning storms as several utility companies reported outages across Mid-Missouri.

Association of Missouri Electric outage map showed 11,450 people without power as of 5:30 a.m. Tuesday. However that number has now decreased to 3,047 at 9 a.m.

In Boone County, there are 625 people without power as of 5:00 a.m. according to the Association of Missouri Electric Cooperatives. Although by 9 a.m. Boone County's power has almost been completely restored with only two homes without power.

Ameren's outage map shows that Jefferson City has 77 people without power and that number has decreased from over 1,400 since 2:00 a.m. Tuesday. Hundreds of people in Kansas City have reported power outages after the early morning storms with utmost over 500. However that number has dropped 390 at 5:30 a.m.

At 9:20 a.m. Ameren still has 1,379 customers across the state without power. They told ABC 17 News that their customers can expect their power to be restored by the end of the day.

Looking at the map from Evergy, the number is now down to 262 in Kansas City.

ABC 17 News spoke to Zach Smith from Boone County Electric about how their crews prepare when there's sever weather in the middle of the night.

"We've got crews on call, 24/7 365," said Smith. "We will have crews on call, tonight during the storm hours. And, typically we send folks home with laptops to handle call volume in case you have to dispatch a lot of crews in the event of a major outage."
