FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

A criminal investigation is underway for a fire that killed two people on Tuesday at Potawatomi Campgrounds, just outside of Fulton.

Missouri Department of Public Safety spokesman Mike O’Connell confirmed to ABC 17 News in an email on Friday that the fire is listed as a criminal investigation being led by the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office.

The Boone County Fire Protection District responded with Human Remains Detection dogs to assist with the investigation. Two people and a number of dogs were found dead at a house fire off of Bartley Lane, the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Thursday Facebook post.

The Sheriff’s Office wrote that multiple fire departments and law enforcement agencies arrived when the residence was fully engulfed.

The names of the victims have not been released.
