COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Schnucks will try out a new store concept at the Lucky's Market location in downtown Columbia.

The supermarket chain said in a news release Wednesday that it will open a natural foods store called EatWell in that location early this summer.

St. Louis-based Schnuck Markets, Inc., bought the Columbia Lucky's Market during a telephone auction in March for $860,000. Lucky's had filed for bankruptcy in January.

Schnucks said it is remodeling the 42,000-square-foot store, which is next to the former Schnucks building where Office Depot is now located. The store closed in early April for the makeover.

About 80 people will work at the new store, and Schnucks said many of them were employed by Lucky's. Some jobs are still available.

The Schnucks store on Forum Boulevard will remain open and its format will stay the same, the company said.
