Tracking heavy rain, ice, and snow between Wednesday night and Thursday

TONIGHT: Mostly cloudy and breezy with lows near 50.

TOMORROW: Windy, warm, and mostly cloudy with highs in the low 60s. Showers move in by late afternoon and rain becomes heavy by Wednesday night.

EXTENDED: Strong south winds will aid in moisture tomorrow as we top out in the lower 60s once again despite cloud cover and approaching rain. Showers look to develop by late afternoon and become heavy as the night wears on, especially south of I-70. A Flood Watch is in effect for areas along and south of Highway 50 including Jefferson City for the potential of 1-2" (isolated 3") of rain through Thursday. We are still keeping a close eye on the track of this storm system, as its path will have an impact on the outcome we end up with in Mid-MO. Right now, it still looks like we will see a changeover from rain to a wintry mix after midnight for our northern counties, and by daybreak farther south toward Columbia. Eventually the entire area sees snow as temperatures quickly drop below freezing Thursday, with the highest totals north of I-70 where temperatures cool the fastest. Snow showers continue through early Thursday evening and temperatures drop to near 10 degrees by Friday morning. A glaze to 0.1" of ice is likely Thursday morning, with 2-4" of snow possible for the northern half of the area. Snow amounts will likely shift a bit by the onset of precipitation, but the highest amounts will likely be north of I-70, with 1-3" possible for Jefferson City and the Lake of the Ozarks. The weekend looks much nicer with highs in the 40s and sunshine on Saturday, and near 60 degrees on Sunday. Next week starts off warm in the low 60s on Monday before our next storm system brings rain by Tuesday.
