Tracking cooler temperatures and a short break from storms

THIS MORNING: Chilly with lows in the 30s. Clouds gradually clear throughout the morning.

TODAY: Mostly sunny and mild with highs in the 50s, almost double digits below average for late March.

EXTENDED: Tuesday rebounds back to the 60s as southerly winds pick up with gusts up to 30 mph. Chances for strong to severe storms increase Tuesday night, and an ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Day has been issued from late Tuesday night through Wednesday evening to cover this threat. Storms late Tuesday night will develop to our northwest and spread southeast overnight, bringing the potential of large hail and a few strong wind gusts. Another cold front directly behind these storms could stall across Mid-Missouri and serve as a trigger point for redevelopment in the afternoon as instability increases across the region, giving us a threat for all severe weather hazards between late Wednesday morning and early evening, particularly east of Highway 63 where there is already a level 3 out of 5 severe weather risk. Behind that front, we continue to see rounds of rain, with some dry time, through the weekend. Temperatures will be in the 40s at night and range from the upper 50s to low 60s during the day. Rain totals through Friday will be around an inch.
