Tracking a chance for storms Thursday and an active weekend forecast

TODAY: Wednesday is another bright and mild day, but with less wind. Winds will be sustained around 5-10 mph, allowing for another day in the 60s, but this time a few degrees warmer, near 65.

TONIGHT: Overnight, we'll add a few clouds, as a warm front inches close to the region. This will move through during the early morning hours Thursday. Temperatures remain in the 40s and 50s through sunrise.

EXTENDED: Thursday starts mostly cloudy and warm thanks to the warm front. We'll also be tracking a few showers and weak storms to start the day. This will be generally non-severe, but as instability increases into the midday and afternoon, we could see more storms develop. On an isolated basis, our strongest storms could be capable of hail and damaging winds. The threat for this is mostly along and north of highway 50. It won't rain all day, and after rain to start the day, the warm front will lift north. With this being the focus for thunderstorms, we should see rain chances lower in the afternoon, leaving us with some dry time to enjoy a high in the 70s. Friday will be a largely dry day, with partly cloudy skies and a high near 80. We'll be breezy at times on Friday. By Saturday morning, some in the east may have a chance for showers before a mostly dry day, but an approaching low from the west will be our focus, as it could bring a chance for storms by Saturday night. An approaching low will pull in moisture ahead of it, and try to take advantage of instability through the late evening hours. This looks like the first of two waves of thunderstorms. Depending on the evolution of the parent trough, we could see another developing low move through later over the weekend on Sunday. This keeps a chance for thunderstorms in the forecast through the end of the weekend. Details regarding severe weather are slim, but we are monitoring the potential for severe storms with both rounds.
