Tracking showers Thursday and storms this weekend
TODAY: Thursday is a cloudy day, with increasing shower chances across the region. Spotty showers through the morning, will precede a better chance for scattered showers this afternoon and evening. Temperatures are held in the 60s today.
TONIGHT: Showers and a few rumbles of thunder linger overnight. Temperatures remain warm, in the 50s.
EXTENDED: Friday through Saturday are ABC 17 Stormtrack Weather Alert Days. We will have scattered storms before sunrise on Friday, with an isolated chance for strong to severe storms embedded within the band. Widespread rain continues to redevelop behind the initial band as the warm front lifts north, and we could see more strong storms through 11 a.m. Then, after dry time, spotty development may re-occur in the early afternoon, bringing more potential for all types of severe weather. Another chance for storms returns in the evening ahead of a cold front/dry line. This chance for development is low, but the risk is high as whatever develops will have significant severe potential. Temperatures during the dry time in the afternoon reach into the 70s. Saturday is notably warmer with much more dry time and sunshine during the day. We will heat into the 80s on Saturday thanks to sunshine and a break from rain. We will have a chance at isolated storm development through the midday and afternoon hours, but greater chances for storms return in the evening. All types of severe weather will be possible here. Our aforementioned cold front never really pushes through the region with any finality, until Sunday. One last push of the cold front, after previously retreating westward, will bring another round of strong to severe storms on Sunday. While some may see severe weather over the weekend, we will likely all see rain, totals are expected to range anywhere between 1-4 inches across mid-Missouri. The start to next week looks drier potentially, but temperatures remain in the 70s and 80s for highs.
