Mizzou wide receiver to return for one more season

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Mizzou wide receiver Mookie Cooper announced that he will be coming back to Columbia for one more season, in 2024.

The St. Louis-native will bring his five years of college experience to an already-deep wide receiving corps under receivers coach Jacob Peeler. In addition to Cooper, the Tigers will return standouts Luther Burden, Marquis Johnson, Mekhi Miller and others in 2024. MU is still waiting on word from senior receiver Theo Wease Jr., as the former Oklahoma transfer does have the eligibility to return to Columbia for another season, if he wishes.

Cooper ranked third on the team in yards through the 2023 regular season, with 429 on the year, averaging about 12 yards per catch. He has not scored a touchdown yet, but will have one more chance against his former school, the Ohio State Buckeyes, in the Cotton Bowl, on Dec. 29.

The receiver transferred to Mizzou, after beginning his career with OSU, in 2020. In that one season with the Buckeyes, he didn't see playing time, as he decided to redshirt.

No. 9 Mizzou and No. 7 Ohio State will kickoff the Cotton Bowl at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 29 at AT&T Stadium.
