Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey gave a heads up to Missouri football fans to be aware of suspicious ticket offerings, according to a Thursday press release.

The Missouri Tigers (6-1, 2-1 SEC) are holding its homecoming game on Saturday. The Tigers take on the South Carolina Gamecocks (2-4, 1-3) in a Southeastern Conference bout. Kickoff will be 2:30 p.m. at Faurot Field.

On the professional side of the sport, the Kansas City Chiefs (5-1) will play an AFC West foe, the San Diego Chargers (2-3), at 3:25 p.m. Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium.

“I want to educate Missourians on potential ticket scams as we move further into football season,” Bailey said in the release. “With ticket sales skyrocketing as our Missouri football teams continue to impress, we want to ensure that consumers have the right tools at their disposal, which includes the Attorney General’s Office. We will pursue anyone who attempts to take advantage of Missourians who have saved their hard-earned money to attend a football game.”

Some tips Bailey included in the press release included:

  • Making sure tickets are bought from a trustworthy website, and making sure the website is secured. “If a website’s address begins with ‘https’, the ‘s’ will not appear in the web address until you access the order page of the site, where you will be asked to enter your personal information.  Secure websites should also display a closed lock graphic in the browser, generally located to the left of the URL in the address bar,” the release states
  • Researching the seller on either the Better Business Bureau’s website or the attorney general’s website.
  • Using a credit card to make the purchase.
  • Inspect your tickets to make sure the information (such as the date, time, etc.) are accurate

Bailey also said at the end of the release that if a deal seems “too good to be true, it probably is.”
