Kobe Brown earns All-SEC honors

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Southeastern Conference announced that Mizzou forward Kobe Brown was one of the best to play the game in the conference this season. The league office gave Brown First-Team All-SEC honors on Monday afternoon.

He also became the first Tiger to ever win the conference's SEC Scholar of the Year award.

The First-Team selection comes after a standout senior year for the big man. He averaged about 15 points and six boards per game, which are the most by a Mizzou player in five seasons. He led the team in scoring on 16 different occasions, including nine 20-point games and 22 games scoring into double digits.

Brown is also the only player in the nation shooting 55 percent from the field and 40 percent from 3-point range. He is also on track to be the first Power 6 player to shoot 55 percent from the field and 45 percent from three since 2010-11, as he currently making 55.2 percent and 45.3 percent, respectively.

Mizzou notched five wins over nationally ranked teams in 2022-23, which is the program's most in 11 years. In each of those games, Brown has been a key to success. He averages about 23 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals in those games.

Brown was the third player in the last five seasons to record 30-plus points in back-to-back wins over ranked opponents, when MU beat No. 16 Illinois and No. 19 Kentucky.

The senior also stands out off the court. He earned a 3.594 grade point average as a general studies major. In the fall semester, he had a 4.0.

The Tigers earned the No. 4 seed for the SEC Tournament – their highest in school history – and open the postseason on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
