Mizzou MBB looks for win in rematch with Mississippi State
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Mizzou men's basketball team will look to come out on top in the second meeting of the season with Mississippi State on Tuesday night. Last time out, the Bulldogs won by 11 points in Starkville.
However, MU will have the home court advantage this time. The Tigers are 14-3 at home this season. Head coach Dennis Gates said that Mississippi State's style of play under head coach Chris Jans is what poses the biggest threat.
"I think they do a great job, defensively, forcing programs into tough shots, holding the score down, being able to post feed at a high level, one of the toughest post players in the country, not just in our conference but in the country, will pose a threat," he said."We got to do a great job, no different than any team has tried to."
The Tigers are coming off of a loss to Texas A&M at home on Saturday. The Aggies edged out Mizzou 69-60, despite a 24 point game from senior Kobe Brown. Gates said that loss was "the weirdest game," since Mizzou forced 21 turnovers, but didn't covert those into points.
"We did what we needed to do defensively. We did not convert," he said. "It's one of those things where you might as well go outside and try figure out if an eclipse is about to happen, because that does not happen. It's not normal."
With just four games left until the SEC Tournament in Nashville, Gates said he is not using seeding in the conference tournament or the NCAA Tournament as motivation. However, Brown said the players know that it's important.
"We know every game we play from here on out determines our seeding in the NCAA Tournament and even the conference tournament. That's on our mind. We just got to come out and show that we deserve better standing than the next team," he said.

Mizzou and Mississippi State will tip off at 6 p.m. at Mizzou Arena on Tuesday night.
