Public comment at Monday's Columbia City Council meeting included speakers focused on race, policing and roll carts for automated trash collection.

Members of the public cited racial inequities in arrests and other public safety statistics and the need for appropriately trained people to respond in mental health crises in their calls to defund police.

Another citizens encouraged the council to consider automated refuse collection using roll carts, emphasizing that it will make city workers' jobs safer.
