Virginia man killed in crash on Interstate 70 in Montgomery County

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

An 18-year-old Virginia man died in a crash Monday morning that occurred in the westbound lane of Interstate 70 in Montgomery County, a Missouri State Highway Patrol crash report states.

According to the report, a 2010 Mercedes Benz was heading west when it ran off the left side of the road and hit median posts. The driver then overcorrected, the vehicle came back to the road and then went off the ride side and into a ditch. The report says the Mercedes then became airborne, skid and hit a parked tractor-trailer at a rest stop.

Xavier Carpenter, of Chester Virginia, died in the crash. The report says he was not wearing a seatbelt. The Mercedes was totaled.

The second vehicle was not occupied and had moderate damage, the report states.
