MSHP: Eight people die on Missouri roads during Fourth of July holiday period
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported eight traffic fatalities over its counting period for Independence Day weekend.
This year’s period lasted from 6 p.m. Wednesday-11:59 p.m. Sunday, a press release states.
Traffic statistics
- 382 crashes
- 159 injuries
- 147 driving while intoxicated arrests
Boating statistics
- 10 crashes
- Seven injuries
- 11 boating while intoxicated arrests
- One drowning
Traffic deaths included a 20-year-old Belle man on Sunday. Joseph Bialczyk died after he failed to negotiate a curve, his vehicle began to skid and went off the left side of the road and overturned on Highway 42 in Maries County, the release says.
William C. Sweet, 48, Monroe City, died Wednesday when the ATV he was driving traveled off the left side of the road and struck a tree on Cincinnati Road in Monroe County, the release says.
