FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

A man was arrested and charged with a chase that led to a crash Thursday afternoon.

State troopers said a woman was taken to the hospital after the wreck.

Russell Hook, 35, is accused of crashing into 55-year-old Sarah Schaffer while he was being chased by Callaway County deputies.

Online court records show Hook faces charges of second-degree assault, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident, as well as possession of a controlled substance.

The highway patrol crash report shows the crash happened at the intersection of Bluff Street and University Avenue just before 4 p.m.

Troopers said Hook drove through a red light and struck Schaffer's vehicle on the side. The crash report shows she was taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.

Hook was later taken to the Callaway County Jail. Troopers say he had minor injuries from the crash.

It's unclear why deputies started chasing Hook. The crash report said Fulton police also assisted troopers.

Online court records don't list an attorney for Hook.
