Columbia community development director to retire in July
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ) -
The head of the Columbia city government's planning, housing and neighborhood programs will retire in July.
Tim Teddy, head of the Columbia Community Development Department, told ABC 17 News via email that he will retire on July 7. Teddy started working for the city in 2005.
Teddy oversaw several major changes in the city as the head of the department in charge of regulating and approving development plans across the city. He helped the city formulate the zoning code overhaul in 2017 and rules for short-term rentals in 2024. His department brought on the new Housing and Neighborhood Services in an effort to better offer affordable housing help in Columbia.
City spokeswoman Sydney Olsen said the city plans to hire a search firm to help fill Teddy's role. The city is in the midst of several high-profile job searches, including a new Utilities Department director and Assistant City Manager. The city's Human Resources department has asked the Columbia City Council for $125,000 more for executive search firm help to fill these roles. A vote on that is set for April 7.
