Fulton Police said Wednesday Thomas Payne, 23, of Fulton was the victim of a shooting early Saturday morning.

A release from the police department shows officers were called to the 600 block of Jefferson Street around 3 a.m. on a report of a shooting. Police said Payne was found at the residence with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Officers said Payne was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. Police reported Payne entered the residence and was shot by a resident.

The Fulton Police chief said Saturday it's unclear if officers will recommend charges in the case.
