Orscheln Moberly locations to be sold, affecting jobs

MOBERLY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Orscheln/Tractor Supply Co. corporate offices and distribution center in Moberly will be sold in May, affecting 122 jobs, according to a notice posted on a state website.

The company said most of those affected with retain their jobs, though 32 positions will be eliminated.

The WARN notice about the jobs was posted Monday, according to the Missouri Office of Workforce Development website. The notices are required when companies plan mass layoffs.

The location will be purchased by Bomgaars.

"We are pleased that all of the Team Members at the Orscheln distribution center will transition to employment with Bomgaars, as well as some corporate staff," Tractors spokeswoman Tricia Whittemore said in a statement. "We take these business decisions extremely seriously, and will be providing those departing Team Members with support including severance and job search coaching."

Unemployment has been low in Randolph County. The unemployment rate in Randolph County was 2.8% as of January, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. This is slightly higher than the state rate, which 2.6%.

In February 2021, Tractor Supply Company announced that it planned to buy and merge with Orscheln Farm and Home.

Orscheln Farm and Home was headquartered in Moberly before the merger. Other companies, including Bomgaars, also announced deals to buy part of the Orscheln company.

The official date of the sale is May 21, according to the WARN notice.
