No one hurt after grass fire in Mexico, Columbia Thursday

COLUMBIA (KMIZ)

No one was hurt after two separate fire scenes broke out Thursday morning in Mid-Missouri.

The Mexico Public Safety Department said in a release that they responded to a grass fire in the 1400 block of Vance Road near Creative Foods Ingredients.

Crews found that electrical equipment from a pole had failed causing it to start sparking.

Those sparks caught nearby grass on fire resulting in about 350 feet burned before it was extinguished.

Also on Thursday morning, Columbia Fire Department responded to a natural cover fire on I-70 eastbound near Stadium Boulevard just before 8 a.m.

Assistant Chief Jeffrey Heidenreich told ABC 17 that a tire on a semi-truck caught fire resulting in small grass fires along the Interstate.

The small fires were put out quickly with help from Boone County Fire Protection District.

No one was hurt in either of the two fires.
